By Joshua Yousouph (JhayWrights)
It's the end of the year again! Minutes have rolled into hours, days into weeks and months into a full-blown year. Obviously, every conscious and prudent being would notice that nothing has ever remained the same ranging from climate and environmental change to a shift in human activities, lifestyle and status. At least, if nothing happened at all, you will agree you're a year older!
A common Yoruba adage says "When an adult falls (while moving forward) he looks back (to review or access what made him stumble) but when a Child falls, he continues moving without a blink.
To achieve development or growth in any area of life, there must be several reviews, assessments and feedbacks on every progressive activity or level. These assessments and reviews must be done at intervals either daily, weekly, monthly, bimonthly, quarterly, or yearly depending on the criteria or parameters for the assessment.
In this case, you must take time out alone preferably a day or two either at the close of the year or early next year to assess salient areas of your life endeavours. This should be done alone (preferably behind closed doors to avoid distractions) and as sincerely as possible to achieve desired results.
Before I delve into the steps and areas to critically review and access, I need must say that you must also list out all the specific things, areas and issues you're grateful for and THANK God extensively for them.
NOTE: You need to be SPECIFIC and never generalise your thanksgiving to God.
Let's get into it! Below are Six (6) areas to critically Review, Assess and give Recommendations.
1. SPIRITUAL LIFE
The Spiritual controls the Physical. You need to review:
- Your level of Passion and Intimacy with God. How cordial is your relationship with God and his service?
- Your level of Illumination and Understanding of God's Word. How far did you read, understand, meditate and act on the word?
- Your Character and Traits. Are they godly? (Gal. 5: 22 -23)
2. MENTAL DEVELOPMENT
This encapsulates your mental perception of everything in and around you.
- The level of your access to Information and Development through the use of Technology (Internet/Social Media), Experiences, Networks etc
- The level of your Relevance and Resourcefulness in your family, society, career, business etc.
- The number and depth of Books you have read on Leadership, Relationships, Finance etc
- Your Mindset about Life generally, Faith, Family, Finance and Wealth, Career etc.
3. HEALTH/WELL BEING
Without this, you cannot be sane enough to live or exist. Unfortunately, many people believe poor health is associated with poverty and until you are wealthy you cannot afford a good healthy lifestyle. This is a great fallacy. You don't need all the money in the world to live healthily. If you do, then wealthy men would not have any health conditions or need to visit the hospital. Being healthy requires paying attention to every little detail of your health and well-being.
- Pay attention to your daily Diets and consumption. Are they balanced?
- Pay attention to Stress Management. How long and often do you rest/sleep?
- Pay attention to regular Checkups and Therapy. How often do you exercise your body, visit a Spa for a massage, unwind by seeing a movie, singing etc?
4. PURPOSE/ASSIGNMENT
If you don't know WHY you exist, then you would just go through life without any direction. Knowing your Purpose or Assignment in life might be a herculean task to discover but one of the easiest ways to this discovery is to identify your interests and develop them. You can also see this LINK.
Review your level of commitment, diligence and progress in:
- Ministry. How have you be able fulfil purpose in your Service to God and his People?
- Career/Business or where you Work/Employed. How have you be able fulfil purpose in line with your work, career of business?
- Humanity (Charity and Philanthropy) How have you be able fulfil purpose in giving to others in cash or kind?
5. FINANCE
This is one of the major aspects you can never deceive yourself in because the result will be vividly seen. You will need to reconcile your average/estimated income for the year vis á vis the following factors.
- Your Savings.
How much available cash have you been able to save for the year?
- Charity.
How much and often have you been able to give back to your family, friends, needy and society?
- Assets/Investments
What and how viable are your assets and Investments?
- Tithes, Offerings and Kingdom Seeds (Although controversial)
How often are you faithful to these?
6. RELATIONSHIP
The people you move and hang around with have great influence on your aspirations. They will either make or mar you. You will need to consider the following relationships, shed off toxic ones and aspire to build stronger bond with relevant ones.
- Marital/Family
How strong is the bond between you and your spouse, children, parents, siblings and family members?
- Career/Business
How strong are your Network, Partnership and Business/Career Connections? Who do you aspire to connect or partner with?
- Friendship/Destiny
Who were the friends who made you? Who are the toxic ones to shed off? Who do you aspire to connect or partner with?
NOTE: After you are done accessing the above Criteria, you must make active Plans and Recommendations below each criterion for optimal improvement and development in the coming year!
Great insight Josh, key areas were nailed, worth going through frequently for thorough action plan. More inspiration
